Why this site exists

Honestly, it started with frustration. I wanted a decent stencil — a simple wolf silhouette for a wall project — and spent the best part of an evening discovering that finding one online was far more annoying than it had any right to be.

Every site I landed on had the same story. Either the design was mediocre and clearly thrown together, or getting hold of it involved creating an account, verifying an email, navigating a paywall, or sitting through a pop-up that asked for my address. For a stencil. That I wanted to print once on a piece of card. It was ridiculous.

So I built this instead.

The idea was simple: put genuinely good stencil designs in one place, make them completely free to download, and don't ask anything of the person downloading them. No email address. No account. No payment. Just a clean SVG file that prints perfectly on any home printer.

What we actually mean by "free"

There's a lot of "free" on the internet that isn't really free. You see the word, click the link, and discover that free actually means free-with-a-catch — sign up first, or free for the low resolution version, or free if you share on social media. That's not what this site does.

Every design here is free to download in full quality, as an A4 SVG file, right now, with no strings attached. You don't need to tell us who you are. You don't need to justify what you're using it for. If it's a personal project, a school activity, a craft afternoon, a birthday decoration — just take it and use it.

The site earns money through advertising. That's the honest trade: free, high-quality content in exchange for the presence of ads on the page. We think that's a fair arrangement, and it's one we're comfortable with.

Who made this

Free Stencil Pages is a UK-based project. It started as a personal frustration turned side project, and has grown into something that — based on the traffic — an awful lot of people apparently find useful, which is genuinely satisfying.

The designs are created and curated specifically for this site. Each one goes through a quality check before it goes live: does it print cleanly at A4? Does it cut well? Does it look good as a stencil rather than just a nice illustration? SVG files that don't pass those questions don't make it onto the site.

We're not a large team. This isn't a venture-backed startup with a content department. It's a focused project run by people who care about it being genuinely useful — which we think is actually an advantage. There's no incentive to pad things out, chase trends, or publish designs that aren't any good just to hit a volume target.

What we believe about design quality

A stencil design has a different set of requirements than a regular illustration. It needs clear bridges — the thin sections that hold the design together when material is cut away. It needs line weights that work at different scales, from a small greetings card to a large wall feature. And it needs to look intentional and finished, not like it was traced from a clip art library.

Getting that balance right takes more care than most people realise. Every design on this site has been drawn or adapted specifically for stencil use — not just converted from an existing image. That's what makes the difference between a stencil that produces a satisfying clean result and one that looks like a mess once you've cut it out and applied paint.

What's coming

The collection is added to regularly. Everything that goes live has been through our quality standards process. We're working on expanding the seasonal ranges, adding more detailed how-to guides for specific crafts and surfaces, and improving the individual design pages to include more practical project ideas.
