Tips for Perfect Animal Stencils

  • Choose the right paint consistency: For walls, use low-tack spray adhesive on the back of the stencil and apply paint with a nearly dry stencil brush or foam roller — this prevents bleeding under the edges.
  • Fabric projects: Always pre-wash fabric before stencilling and use fabric-specific paint or add a fabric medium to your acrylic. Heat-set with an iron (no steam) for a lasting finish.
  • Paper & card: Print the stencil on 160gsm card for a more durable template that lasts multiple uses. For single-use, 80gsm printer paper is fine.
  • Scaling for walls: Download the SVG, take it to a print shop and request an A1 or A0 print, or use a projector to trace the design at any size directly onto the wall.
