Best stencils for children
Tips for stencilling with children
Use the right paint: Poster paint and washable acrylic are best for children — bright colours, easy cleanup, and safe for young hands. For fabric projects, use non-toxic fabric paint and heat-set with a parent-operated iron.
Print on thicker card: For reusable classroom stencils, print on 160–200gsm card and laminate. A laminated stencil can be wiped clean with a damp cloth and used by a whole class.
Set up a stencil station: Put paint on a plate and let children dip a sponge or foam brush. Dabbing on paint is an easy technique that young children can master quickly — and it gives better results than brushing.
Scale up for bigger impact: For classroom wall displays, print at A3 or larger at a school printer. The SVG files scale to any size.
